Massachusetts Association of Vocational Administrators Honors John M. “Jack” Jones with Prestigious Dr. David F. Cronin Award
MARLBOROUGH, Mass. — The Massachusetts Association of Vocational Administrators (MAVA) presented its highest honor, the Dr. David F. Cronin Award, to John M. “Jack” Jones in recognition of more than four decades of leadership, service, and contributions to vocational-technical education in Massachusetts.
Jones received the award during the MAVA Annual Awards and Retiree Recognition Dinner at the Marlborough Country Club in Marlborough.
The award is named in honor of Dr. David F. Cronin, who served vocational-technical education in Massachusetts as Associate Commissioner of Education and worked to advance the quality and professional standards of vocational-technical education throughout the Commonwealth. Cronin later served for eight years as Executive Director of MAVA.
Jones devoted much of his career to Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School in Franklin, where he began working in 1977. Over nearly three decades, he served in several leadership roles, including Academic Coordinator, Principal, and, for 17 years, Superintendent-Director before retiring in 2006.
A longtime leader within MAVA, Jones served on the organization’s Board of Directors for 17 years, including as MAVA President in 1997.
His service to vocational-technical education continued well beyond his retirement from Tri-County. In 2007, Jones began serving as Program Coordinator for MAVA Leadership Academy II, a role he held for 15 years. Through the Academy, he helped prepare aspiring superintendents and assistant superintendents to lead vocational-technical schools across Massachusetts.
Jones shared both his experience and his leadership philosophy with generations of school administrators, frequently reminding participants, “It’s all about relationships.”
Through his leadership at Tri-County, his service to MAVA, and his mentorship of future administrators, Jones has made a lasting impact on vocational-technical education throughout the Commonwealth.
